Frequently Asked Questions

How much does smart lock installation cost in Fort Worth?

Labor only runs $85-$150 if you supply the lock. Lock + install runs $250-$500 depending on model — Schlage Encode WiFi $280, Yale Assure 2 with Connected By August Module $320, Level Lock Plus (HomeKit) $400+. We include app setup and one-on-one training.

Should I get WiFi, Z-Wave, or Zigbee smart locks?

WiFi (Schlage Encode, Yale Assure WiFi) works out of the box with no hub but burns through batteries (3-4 months on AA). Z-Wave/Zigbee (most Yale, Kwikset Halo) need a SmartThings, Hubitat, or Echo hub but batteries last 12-18 months. WiFi is simpler; Z-Wave is the smart choice if you already own a hub.

Will a smart lock work with my current deadbolt hole?

Almost always yes. Standard residential prep is a 2-1/8" bore with 1" edge bore at 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" backset — that is what Yale, Schlage, August, and Kwikset are built to fit. We measure on arrival and will tell you immediately if the door is non-standard before any drilling.

What is Matter and does my smart lock support it?

Matter is the 2023 open-standard protocol that lets a single smart lock work across Apple Home, Google Home, Alexa, and SmartThings without separate apps. As of 2026, the Yale Assure 2 (Matter SKU), Schlage Encode Plus, and Level Lock Plus all support it. If cross-ecosystem matters, ask for a Matter-compatible model when scheduling.
